Flying Legends Airshow 2024:

From the Flying Legends Airshow organisers:

Dear Friends, Partners, and Colleagues,

It is with much regret that we confirm our decision to cancel the upcoming Flying Legends Airshow 2024. This decision has not been made lightly and follows an in depth assessment of our options for the year ahead.

We appreciate the rich history, the thrill, and the joy that Flying Legends brings to aviation enthusiasts from around the world. Each year we gather to celebrate our love of classic aviation, to marvel at the beauty of these legendary aircraft, and to honour the men and women who designed, manufactured, maintained, and fought in these epic machines.

We would like to thank Chris and Sally Makin and their amazing team at Church Fenton for the energy and professionalism with which they hosted Flying Legends 2023 and to thank all who participated in getting FL23 airbourne at such short notice and with such conviction and panache.

Let me assure you that we will not let this decision dampen our spirits as we explore our options for the future. We promise to keep you posted as we gather out thoughts for 2025 and beyond.

Thank you for your understanding and friendship. soon we will meet again, and until then, let us stay optimistic, safe in the knowledge that the Show Must Go On.

The whole team at The Fighter Collection, wish you and your families health, love and happiness for Christmas and the New Year.

Yours ever,

Nick.

Flying Legends Airshow History

The Flying Legends Airshow is a hugely popular event which features an unrivalled line up of the great classic piston engine fighters and bombers of both World Wars.

The air show, which is run by 'The Fighter Collection' (TFC), usually takes place over a weekend in July and has previously been held at Duxford in Cambridgeshire.

On the 25th August 2020 it was announced that the Flying Legends Airshow will no longer be taking place at Duxford. The 2020 show was cancelled due to the Coronavirus and the last 'Flying Legends' airshow to take place at Duxford was in 2019.

The reason given by IWM Duxford was that due to 'financial pressures which have resulted from the coronavirus pandemic over the past few months, IWM Duxford has been required to examine all future events and consult with key partners to ensure that, as a charity, the organisation is able to maximise income and remain financially stable.' It was therefore mutually agreed that TFC would seek an alternative location to host Flying Legends. See Press Release here.

It was announced on the 6th November 2020 that the Flying Legends Airshow would take place at Sywell Aerodrome, Northants, on 10th - 11th July 2021. See Press Release here. Unfortunately, the Flying Legends Airshow 2021 had to be cancelled, due to the uncertainty surrounding the UK opening fully for business, because of the Coronavirus Pandemic. Flying Legends was also cancelled in 2022 because a suitable venue could not be found - See News here.

It was announced in February 2023 that the Flying Legends Air Show would return in July 2023 at Leeds East Airport (formerly RAF Church Fenton).
