Weston Air Festival History
Weston is home to the helicopter museum and was the venue for the 'Heli-Days' event which took place every year and featured various helicopters on the beach lawns.

The 'Heli-days' event has now been replaced by the Weston Air Festival which takes place in June each year and includes a full air show and also includes the 'National Armed Forces Day' celebrations.

Weston Air Festival began in June 2013 and was called 'Weston Air Day' as it was held on just one day. It has since become a two-day event called 'Weston Air Festival and Armed Forces Weekend'.

Weston Air Festival 2020 & 2021 was cancelled due to Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Weston Air Festival is a free two-day air show which takes place in June. It also includes the 'National Armed Forces Day' celebrations.

As well as an air display of over 5 hours each day there is also a static display of helicopters on the beach lawns as well as an Armed Forces Arena, Fun Fair, simulators, inflatables, and trade stands.

Weston Air Festival 2021:

19-20 June - Weston Air Festival 2021 CANCELLED

Weston Air Festival 2021 Cancelled:

Unfortunately, the Weston Air Festival and Armed Forces Day celebrations will not take place in 2021 due to the June restrictions regarding outdoor gatherings.

Full statement from the Weston Air Festival organisers:

Residents and visitors to Weston-super-Mare can look forward to an exciting line-up of events this summer as the government relaxes its lockdown restrictions.

Planned events over the summer season include the Great Weston Ride, Real Ale Festival, Dairy Festival, Continental Market, Weston Sea Shanty, Beach Rugby, Trucks @ The Beach, Race for Life, MG Owners Car Meet and Vintage Bus Rally.

Unfortunately, the line-up will not include the Weston Air Festival and Armed Forces Day celebrations which were scheduled for the weekend of 19 and 20 June.

Restrictions still in place at that time regarding large outdoor gatherings mean the event, in common with many other planned air shows across the country, is unable to go ahead this year.

Alternative dates were explored but unfortunately they were operationally unviable.

"We are extremely disappointed that the air festival cannot go ahead this year," said Cllr Mike Solomon, North Somerset Council's executive member for leisure, culture and tourism. "It is one of the region's flagship events and is of huge importance to the local economy.

"However, we have to follow government guidance which means we are unable to stage an event of this size at this time. Our priority continues to be to protect the health and safety of both local residents and visitors."

Cllr Solomon said money earmarked by the council for the air festival will now be used to support other events.

"We are working hard to bring forward a programme of events that people can enjoy as the restrictions are lifted," he said. "After months of lockdown these events will provide great opportunities for people to get out and about again and enjoy the entertainment on offer."
