THREE iconic aircraft from yesteryear will bring history to life at the Wales Airshow this summer.
Battle of Britain Memorial Flight - Swansea BayMade up of an Avro Lancaster, a Supermarine Spitfire and a Hawker Hurricane, the display group is regularly seen at events commemorating the Second World War. The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight has also taken part in several British state occasions, including the Queen's 80th birthday celebrations in 2006 and Prince William's wedding in 2011.
Run by Swansea Council, this year's Wales Airshow is being sponsored by Swansea University.
Other aircraft to have already confirmed their participation include the RAF's Red Arrows and Typhoon display teams.
Frances Jenkins, Swansea Council's Strategic Manager for Culture, Tourism, Marketing and Events, said: "Helping meet the appetite for nostalgia at events of this kind, it's pleasing that we're now able to confirm the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's participation in this July's Wales Airshow.
"Combing with modern aircraft, cutting-edge aerobatic displays and ground-based entertainment, this display is among many that hundreds of thousands of spectators will soon be enjoying in the skies above Swansea.
"More aircraft will be confirmed in weeks to come as we continue to make progress on an event that's worth more than £1m to the city's economy."
This summer marks the third consecutive year for the Wales Airshow in Swansea.
